Brucite Thin Section

Some deposits are soft easily crushed and structureless.
Brucite thin section. Each mg is octahedrally coordinated to six o groups and these octahedra share edges to form the layers. And the fibers are elongate at right angles to the c axis. Some are hard dense and pisolitic.
Bauxite rock largely composed of a mixture of hydrous aluminum oxides. Bauxite is the principal ore of aluminum. Some of the deformation modes of the silicate network also extend into this region as well blaha and rosasco 1978.
The folia are tabular parallel to 0001. Fibrous brucite is called hemalite or nemalite and is relatively uncommon. Brucite has a layer structure with hydroxyl oh groups in hexagonal close packing.
When a section is in one of the extinction position fine birefringent calcite dust formed by griding is prominent. Symmetrical or inclined to the rhombohedral cleavages. A fibrous variety of brucite is called nemalite.
Bauxites vary physically according to the origin and geologic history of their deposits. There are also many circular bundles of white brucite crystals which appear as single zoned grains but between crossed polars they are revealed to be many brucite fibres in each grain. Brucite usually occurs as foliated or swirled masses and aggregates or as fibrous masses.
The thin section is dominated by dusty mg rich carbonate grains with many deformation bands.
