Eclogite Thin Section

Discovery and brief history of eclogites.

Eclogite thin section. Rutile kyanite and quartz are typically present. The coesite not seen here but in thin section doubles the minimum pressure boundary for metamorphism of these rocks. Thin section and geochemistry sample preparation by katie honors fellows 2017 after many weeks of sawing cutting slicing cleaning careful labeling and extremely careful packaging twenty thin section blocks have been made from my rock samples and shipped off to be transformed into microscope slides.

It is a major mineral component of eclogite along with pyrope garnet and also occurs in blueschist facies and uhp ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks. Eclogite never contains plagioclase. Green omphacite late chlorite pink garnet blue glaucophane colorless phengite.
