The cranium and the mandible in humans these two parts are the neurocranium and the viscerocranium facial skeleton that includes the mandible as its largest bone the skull forms the anterior most portion.
Skull sections. The skull is composed of two parts. The cranium the cranium also known as the neurocranium is formed by the superior aspect of the skull. The skull is a bony structure that forms the head in vertebrates it supports the structures of the face and provides a protective cavity for the brain.
Those of the cranium which can be subdivided the skullcap known as the calvarium and the cranial base and those of the face. The bones of the skull can be divided into two groups. The hard palate and the upper jaw.
We can divide this part of the skull into five to make it easier to study. It is subdivided into the facial bones and the brain case or cranial vault figure 1. The zygomatic arches mandibular fossae.
Although the cranium the largest section of the skull might appear to be one solid bone there are actually 22 bones that encase the brain. The cranium skull is the skeletal structure of the head that supports the face and protects the brain. During fetal development the bones of the skull form within tough fibrous membranes in a fetus head.
